Alarms are designed to automatically alert you of certain situa-
tions. The 961 updates the status of its alarms every second,
and displays its alarm messages in three different ways:
at the bottom of any screen you're displaying

at the top of the CHART screen (this lets you still see the
•
INFO BARs at the bottom of the screen)
on the ALARMS screen (on this screen, you can manually
•
"clear," or stop, new alarms, although some are auto-clear-
ing, and you can view old alarms, which are alarms that
already have cleared)
On this screen, if there aren't any new alarms, the CLEAR
ALARM key won't be displayed.
The different types of onscreen alarm messages are
color-coded:
red alarm messages provide warnings, such as GPS
•
receiver failure, anchor dragging, or entry into an avoid-
ance point
