You may prefer manual switching for critical situations when
trying to locate a buoy in dense fog, or maneuvering around a
waypoint trying to find a lobster trap, and so on. Why? Manual
switching lets you continually display distance and bearing
information for the nearby waypoint—even if you've passed
it—until you're ready to manually advance to the next way-
point. This feature gives you time to maneuver precisely to a
waypoint before calculations to the next waypoint begin. Each
time you arrive at an active waypoint, however, you must
manually change to the next waypoint: Advancing to the next
waypoint, however, is as simple as pressing the TRIP key,
selecting the future waypoint, pressing the GO TO SELEC-
TION key, and pressing the GO DIRECT key.
When set to automatic switching, however, the 961 displays
new distance and bearing information for the next waypoint
right upon passing the previous one.
To set the 961 to advance waypoints either manually or auto-
matically:
1. At the NAVIGATION SETUP screen, press the CURSOR
PAD to highlight the WAYPT SWITCHING option, then
press the EDIT key.
