Chapter 4 - Understanding the Chart Screen
Selecting new
charts
Page 4-8
2. At the GO TO COORDINATES dialog box, press the
RESTART HERE key.
The 961 restarts your desired track to run from your
present position to the active waypoint, and returns to the
CHART screen.
For an in-depth description of restarting the track, see "Restart-
ing the track" starting on page 10-19.
At the CHART screen, you have four options for viewing other
charts:
select a different chart appropriate for your position
select from a list of charts at the vessel position or the cur-
sor position
view a list of all charts in the database
use a plotter grid instead of a chart
To quickly select a different chart, briefly press the NEW
CHART key. With each brief keypress, the 961 cycles through
all the available charts for your specific location—right on the
CHART screen. When you see the desired chart, stop pressing
the NEW CHART key. As the 961 cycles through the available
charts, it selects a chart of the same scale being viewed until
there's a better scale to choose from. When there aren't any
better charts to choose from, the 961 displays the MESSAGE
FOR YOU, CAPTAIN! dialog box, informing you that there is
no better resolution chart available for your position.
To view the charts stored in the database, press and hold the
NEW CHART key for about two seconds, and a list of the 961's
charts is displayed. If the cursor wasn't on the screen when
you pressed NEW CHART, the 961 displays a list of charts cov-
ering the present vessel position; if the cursor was on the
screen when you pressed NEW CHART, the 961 displays a list
of charts covering the cursor position.
