Chapter 4 - Understanding the Chart Screen
Both of the chart views have six menu keys—GO TO, NEW
Menu keys
CHART, OVERLAY, CLEAR, and two INFO keys; collectively,
these keys control a range of chart navigation functions. For a
complete description of these keys, see "Chart-view menu
keys" starting on page 3-6.
Zooming in and out
Zoom levels
on the chart screen
Press the IN key to zoom in for a closer look at the area either
around your vessel or around the cursor (when the cursor is
on the screen). Press the OUT key to zoom out for a wider look
at the area either around your vessel or around the cursor.
Each IN keypress doubles the chart scale; each OUT keypress
halves the chart scale.
You can zoom out to the point where you see the entire chart
within the 961's display screen, and your zoom-in capacity
depends on the individual charts (by default, you aren't able to
zoom in beyond the original scale of the paper chart).
Data from the chart CDs is displayed at scales from approxi-
mately
nm to approximately 32 nm, and many of these
chart scales show a tremendous amount of detail for the areas
they cover.
Many charts display their maximum detail at the
-nm scale
level. For charts with even higher detail level, the 961 lets you

zoom all the way in to a
-nm scale.
ClearZoom™
For those times when you want to zoom out to a smaller scale
than the 1:1 original chart, you can set the 961 to display an
improved chart-image quality with Northstar's ClearZoom™
feature. For details about using ClearZoom, see "ClearZoom"
starting on page 13-26.
There are various ways to customize the setup of your CHART

screen. The 961's CHART SCREEN SETUP function includes
chart display
options to customize your chart display to meet your individ-
ual navigation needs. For an overview of the chart setup, see
