MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP
("CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT) CHECK
1) Turn ignition switch to ON position (but without running engine),
check that malfunction indicator lamp ("CHECK ENGINE" light)
lights up. If lamp does not light up, go to TABLE A-1 MALFUNC-
TION INDICATOR LAMP CIRCUIT CHECK in this section. If
lamp flashes, go to TABLE A-2 MALFUNCTION INDICATOR
LAMP CIRCUIT CHECK in this section.
2) Start engine and check that malfunction indicator lamp
("CHECK ENGINE" light) turns OFF.
If lamp remains ON, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE
(DTC) CHECK in this section.
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHECK
1) Check malfunction indicator lamp ("CHECK ENGINE" light).
Refer to MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP ("CHECK EN-
GINE" LIGHT) CHECK in this section.
2) With ignition switch at OFF position, connect a jumper wire from

diagnosis switch terminal (1) to ground terminal (2) in monitor
connector (3).

3) With ignition switch at ON position (but engine not running) read
DTC from flashing pattern of malfunction indicator lamp
("CHECK ENGINE" light). Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE
CODE TABLE in this section.
If lamp remains ON, go to TABLE A-3 MALFUNCTION INDICA-
TOR LAMP CIRCUIT CHECK in this section.
NOTE:
If abnormality or malfunction lies in two or more areas,
malfunction indicator lamp ("CHECK ENGINE" light) in-
dicates applicable codes three times each.
Flashing of these codes is repeated while diagnosis ter-
minal is grounded and ignition switch is held at ON posi-
tion.
Take a note of diagnostic trouble code indicated first.
4) After completing check, turn ignition switch to OFF position and
disconnect service wire from monitor connector (3).
