Frequently Used Procedures

Connecting and Disconnecting the 12 V Battery

CAUTION
Before installing, removing, or servicing components in the 12 V system (e.g., starter,
alternator, control arm components, etc.), disconnect the 12 V battery. This prevents
unexpected operation of 12 V system components.
1. Operator's seat

Disconnecting the 12 V Battery
A.
Park the machine on a level surface and lower the cutting units.
B.
Shut off the engine, apply the parking brake, and remove the key from the key switch.
C.
At the left side of the machine, locate the 12 V battery
D.
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery
E.
Disconnect the positive cable from the battery
2.
Connecting the 12 V Battery
A.
After servicing the 12 V system, coat the battery posts and the cable connectors with battery terminal
protector (Toro Part No. 107-0392) or petroleum jelly to prevent corrosion.
B.
Connect and tighten the positive cable to the battery (before connecting the negative cable)
C.
Install the rubber boot onto the positive battery cable
D.
Connect and tighten the negative cable to the battery
