7.1.7 GPRS with ComTSC (Tainy Switching Center)

i
Data transmission to a Tainy Switching Center (TSC) is supported by the EK280 up to and
including V2.40!
Please note that newer versions of the EK280 (from V2.50) no longer support operation with a
TSC!
7.1.7.1 General details of the TSC system
If the TSC system is in use, the data is read from the terminal devices via a GPRS-TCP/IP connection. The
meter read out software "dials" a freely definable "call number" of a station. The Tainy Switching Center
(the TSC-Server) has the task of setting up the connection between this (static) "call number and the
dynamic IP address (which changes from one GPRS session to the next) that has been notified to the GPRS
modem of the station to be called up during establishment of the current "GRPS session" by the GPRS
network and was subsequently reported automatically by the modem to the TSC server.
An essential precondition for such a connection via the GPRS network and the TSC system is the installation
in addition of a virtual COM-Port-Client (CPC) on the control center computer. The installation and the
operation of the TSC server and the CPC are explained in the TSC system documentation.
The parameters required for TSC operation must be configured separately in the EK280 modem (instead of
in the EK280).
Apart from the GPRS-TSC data transmission, the usual data call up through a GSM-CSD data connection is
also possible (although not simultaneously).
i
This application works only with a modem with "ComTSC" option. This option
must be requested when ordering the EK280. Compatibility is indicated by the
field marked "ComTSC" on the EK280 modem's label.
7.1.7.2 Parameterization of the EK280 for operation with an internal ComTSC-Modem
i
For parameterization of the EK280 you need a connection cable for the optical interface as well
as the enSuite program. enSuite can be downloaded free of charge from the Honeywell website
in the "Software Downloads" section:
www.elster-instromet.com/en/software-downloads
i
If your order for the EK280 stipulated "ComTSC", the EK280 has already been suitably
parameterized at the factory so that steps a) and b) in this section may be skipped.
Only if the modem application "ComTSC" is added locally later onto the modem (e.g. by the
Honeywell customer service) the EK280 parameters needs to be adapted by loading the
corresponding wpp file!
a) Closing the time windows
In order that the parameterization works correctly the time windows 1 to 4 must be closed. To do this
proceed as follows here.
Connect a PC or laptop with enSuite installed to the EK280 optical interface using the connection
cable.
Start enSuite and establish the communication link to theEK280 via the optical interface.
