7.3 EM260 to serial interface

i
Attention
As of V2.50 of the EK280, function with an EM260 is no longer guaranteed!
The EK280 as of V2.50 has a wide range of communication options. These are either via an
internal communication module  Chapter
(p. 58) or via a connected FE260  chapter

7.3.1 EM260 connection

To connect a Honeywell modem EM260 to the EK280, the terminal interface of the EM260 is connected in
accordance with the following illustration to the termination interface of the EK280. The latter needs to be
parameterized for RS232 operation. This is done by loading the application-specific parameter file (analog
modem, Ethernet). The name of the parameter file to be used is given further down in the appropriate
chapter.
For the connection of the EM260 to EK280, an 8-core cable needs to be used; this is included with the
EM260 as supplied. The required cable length needs to be indicated when the EM260 is ordered (2m, 5 m or
bespoke length).
The individual cores must be taken to the inside of the EK280 through one of the metal unions; the housing
of the EK280 needs to be opened up for this purpose.
Attention! Danger!
Ensure the mains voltage is disconnected before opening the EM260 housing, ensure it is not
turned back on and verify that there is no voltage.
The cable screen must be expertly connected to the EK280 bulkhead fitting so as to prevent electromagnetic
interference.
