Flight Management System (FMS) for the Agusta AW139/AB139 Helicopter
Message (MSG) -- MSG is an advisory annunciator displayed on the
D
on--side HSI or PFD display. This annunciator is displayed when a
message is shown in the scratchpad. The annunciator is removed
after the message has been cleared from the scratchpad.
FMS scratchpad messages are not annunciated on the MCDU
when the FMS or RADIO systems are selected for MCDU control.
During MCDU control of other subsystems, scratchpad messages
are queued and are not displayed. The pilot is notified when an
alerting scratchpad message is available by way of the the MSG
annunciator on the PFD.
An advisory scratchpad message does not activate the MSG
annunciator. The scratchpad messages are automatically displayed
when the MCDU control is returned to the FMS or RADIO systems.
Messages are displayed in the MCDU scratchpad at various times.
Messages inform or alert the pilot as to system status and are
divided into the following three groups:
1. ADVISORY MESSAGES -- Advisory messages contain
information helpful to the pilot. Advisory messages are normally
the result of a pilot action on the MCDU (e.g., making an entry
with the incorrect format). Advisory messages have a low priority
and are displayed after any alerting messages.
2. ALERTING MESSAGES -- Alerting messages alert the pilot to
the FMS status, assuming the pilot is not looking at the MCDU
(for example, a message annunciating a sensor failure). Alerting
messages have a high priority and are displayed before any
advisory messages. An external annunciator is turned on for
alerting messages.
3. SYSTEM MESSAGES -- System Messages are displayed as a
result of something changing in the system. These messages
are displayed at any time.
Messages are displayed in priority order on a first in, last out basis.
In cases where multiple messages are stacked, the message
annunciator remains displayed until all messages are cleared. Only
one message is cleared per CLR key push.
The following messages are able to be displayed in the MCDU
scratchpad.
— ACTIVE MODE IS MAG HDG -- This is an alerting system
message indicating that magnetic (mag) heading has been
automatically selected.
