4.5 Troubleshooting

Symptom
Self-diagnosis
(initialization) is not
performed when the
POWER switch is
turned on.
The keyboard
does not work.
A/Z
The
key does
not work.
The time program
does not start.
The xenon lamp
does not light.
Excessive noise
Cause
The power cord plug is
not securely plugged in.
The fuse is blown.
The light source cover
is not properly attached.
(The cover activates a
safety interlock switch.)
The instrument is not
ready for operation.
The display does not
present the 1st monitor
screen (FL indication).
The instrument is not
ready to operate.
The xenon lamp is still
hot.
The Xe lamp has
reached the end of its
useful life.
The flow cell is
contaminated.
The mobile phase is not
sufficiently degassed.
The mobile phase
contains impurities.
The gain level of the
recorder is too high.
The pump is faulty.
The xenon lamp has
reached the end of its
useful life.
Judgment/Check
Visual check
Check the fuse for
continuity.
Visual check
Check the monitor
screen.
Check the monitor
screen.
Check the monitor
screen.
Turn on the lamp
again.
Check the
cumulative turn-on
time of Xe lamp.
Visual check
Spike noise occurs.
Check the mobile
phase.
Check the gain level
of the recorder.
Check to ensure the
operation of the
pump is smooth.
Check for noise
when the pump is
stopped.
Check the
cumulative turn-on
time of Xe lamp.

Remedy
Plug in the power cord
securely.
Replace the fuse with a
new one. (Refer to
Section 6.3.)
Retighten the retaining
screws of the light source
cover.
Press the ESC key.
The READY status will be
presented.
Return to the 1st monitor
screen (FL indication).
(Refer to Section 4.1.)
Press the ESC key.
The READY status will be
presented.
For turning on the lamp
again, wait at least 5
minutes after the Xe lamp
went out.
Replace the Xe lamp with
a new one.
Clean the flow cell.
(Refer to Section 4.4)
Degas the mobile phase
thoroughly.
Purify the mobile phase, or
replace it with mobile
phase of a higher quality.
Adjust the gain level of the
recorder.
Check the pump.
Replace the xenon lamp
with a new one. (Refer to
Section 5.2.1.)
