Chapter 1 System Management
1.5 Utility Management
Stopping all host access is recommended before using this function.
If this function is used during operation, system performance may be temporarily reduced due to clearing
the cache data. Make sure to check the access status to the ETERNUS DX before using this function.
Stop the performance monitoring before using this function. If this function is used during a performance
monitoring, the system performance (IOPS, throughput, response time, and cache hit rate) may
temporarily and significantly be increased or decreased.
This function is not available in a Unified Storage environment.
If Dirty data (cache data that is not written back to the drive) exists in the cache memory, this function
cannot be used. In this case, perform one of the following procedures:
-
Stop the host access, after waiting for the Dirty data to be written back to the drive (the Cache LED
turns off), execute this function.
-
Perform the [Force Write Back] function to write the Dirty data back to the drive and then execute this
function. Note that the [Force Write Back] function can be performed by a maintenance engineer who
has the "Maintenance Operation" policy.
This function cannot be used under the following conditions:
-
The storage system status is "Not Ready"
-
The CM status is not "
-
The PFM status is not "
-
The status of RAID groups registered as EXCPs is not "
Pool")
The secondary cache (EXC/EXCP) selection and the memory size settings can be performed with ETERNUS
Web GUI. Refer to
This function deletes the cache data for Read, however the same data is stored in the drive so there is no
data loss.
Cache data in the EXC can only be cleared when all of the following conditions are satisfied:
-
For the ETERNUS DX500 S3/DX600 S3 or the ETERNUS DX8700 S3/DX8900 S3
-
PFMs are installed in all of the CMs (for the ETERNUS DX500 S3/DX600 S3)
-
PFMs are installed in the CMs (for the ETERNUS DX8700 S3/DX8900 S3)
-
The EXC is enabled
-

-
The EXCP is enabled
