Fault 19: Engine Coolant Temp Sensor Out
of Range

Fault Description
The engine coolant temperature sensor (also called the temperature sender) is either open or shorted. Its output
is outside the normal functional range.
Circuit Description
The engine coolant temperature sensor (temperature sender) is a submersible thermistor which sends an
analog signal of 0 to 5 Vdc to the TEC-5002.
Note:
The resistance measured within the temperature sender decreases as coolant temperature rises.
Conditions for Setting the Fault
The TEC-5002 receives the minimum or maximum reading from the engine coolant temperature sensor
(temperature sender).
Recommended Service Actions
Step 1: Verify that the fault repeats.

Clear the system faults from the InfoCenter. Refer to

Operate the machine.
Pass
The fault did not repeat. Go to

If the fault does not repeat, an isolated event has occurred.
Fail
The fault repeated. Go to Step 2.
Step 2: Test the temperature sender wiring.

Locate the temperature sender near the alternator, on the coolant thermostat housing attached to the
engine cylinder head
