CHARTS ON DISK screen
After you've pressed the CURSOR PAD up or down to
highlight a chart, press the INFO key to cycle through a series
of INFO BARs of information showing the following (usually,
the first INFO keypress shows chart-source information, but if
you display a CD-ROM's chart files, at first you'll see
information about the contents of that particular CD, and the
space left for additional charts):
chart number and chart source (originator, manufacturer,
source date, and datum)
sounding description, chart scale, and water-depth units
as shown on the chart
lat/lon for the eastern, western, northern, and southern
edges of the selected chart
if you're highlighting an HCRF chart, the INFO BAR
displays the chart series (Navigator or Skipper); expiration
date (Navigator series); correction level (this is the Notice
to Mariners number to which the chart has been
corrected); name and date/version of the corresponding
Chart CD; and name and date/version of the
corresponding Update CD
Changing a chart's usage
During navigation, charts for your cruising area are
automatically selected and displayed on the CHART screen. To
help manage this chart selection process, you can mark a chart
in the database as either PREFER, NORMAL, or AVOID by
using the USAGE key (this key isn't available if the database is
void of charts). With a chart highlighted on the CHARTS IN
DATABASE screen, press the USAGE key to cycle through the
PREFER, NORMAL, and AVOID choices; simply make your
choices as follows:
mark a chart NORMAL to select and display this chart if it
appears to be the best choice for your location.
marking a chart as PREFER selects this particular
chart—even when others are available—as charts are
