Chapter 13 - Customizing Setup Functions
Loading and
updating HCRF
charts
Page 13-40
This section describes the HCRF chart-loading and
chart-updating functions. Each function is introduced by a
standard chart-management objective, which is outlined in the
left margin of the major heading: Find the procedure you want
to perform and just follow the instructions.
Before proceeding with chart loading, however, it is
recommended that you read the introductory section below
(unless you're already well-versed in HCRF chart functions).
Introducing HCRF charts
The designer of HCRF charts is the United Kingdom
Hydrographic Office (UKHO), which offers an HCRF chart
service called ARCS, the Admiralty Raster Chart Service. This
section introduces ARCS charts as well as key points to
remember when loading and updating them.
Technical support
For technical support with ARCS charts, you should first call
your ARCS agent/distributor. You can also email the UKHO at
helpdesk@busdev.hydro.gov.uk, or call the UKHO's ARCS
Customer Service offices at +44 (0)1823 723366.
For troubleshooting HCRF chart loading and updating, see
"Troubleshooting the loading of ARCS charts" starting on page
13-55.

the Chart CD (contains the charts)
the Update CD (contains the updates to those charts)
the Permit Disk that contains your ARCS license (which
identifies the charts to your 961/962) and chart permits
for each chart (which "unlocks" the chart from the Chart
CD)
your user permit (stored inside the 961/962)
ARCS charts are purchased on a chart-by-chart basis. Each
chart you want to use has its own chart permit. For example, if
