The fluorescent tube that illuminates the unit slowly dims
after several thousand hours of use. If you use your unit for
several hours every day, you may want to keep the level of the
display lighting low when you don't really need it (for
instance, during daylight hours). The occasional user (once a
week or less) should not worry about minimizing the lighting
level.
To change the level of backlighting of the 951's screen and
keys:
1. Press the 67$5 key to display the ALARMS & BACKLIGHT
screen.
2. Press the %5,*+7 menu key to make the lighting
brighter; press the ',0 menu key to dim the lighting.
To change the level of backlighting of the 952's screen and
keys:
1. Press the $552: key. Pressing the upper $552: bright-
ens the screen; pressing the lower $552: darkens it.
When the display screen is at full brightness, if the unit becomes too hot,
the display screen will automatically dim until it reaches half of its maxi-
mum brightness. If you override the auto-dim function, by pressing the
%5,*+7
key on the 951 or the double
will begin to dim again until it reaches half of its maximum brightness.

The unit calculates tide information for any of over 3,540
NOS/NOAA tide stations. The entire U.S. coastline--including
Alaska and Hawaii--is covered, plus many Caribbean islands
and eastern and western Canada. Tides can be displayed for
any date up to the year 2010. Data is from the official tide-table
predictions and should be as accurate as the printed tables.
