The unit's Phantom Loran feature is designed for those users
who have compiled lists of fishing spots or other locations as
loran TDs, but are now using the unit as a GPS-only navigator.
The unit mathematically converts GPS lat/lon coordinates to
loran TDs—in real time, as you travel—enabling you to display
your current position as TDs.
You can also enter waypoint coordinates as loran TDs (see
"Entering waypoints numerically" starting on page 78).
The unit can be used to simulate full operation of a loran
receiver. You can display position coordinates as TDs, and use
all navigation functions as if the unit were actually receiving
loran signals. Remember, however, that these calculated TDs
won't exactly match the positions of previously recorded TD
coordinates obtained directly from actual loran signals. In
most areas, TD errors shouldn't exceed one microsecond; how-
ever, larger errors are possible in areas for which the unit
doesn't contain accurate, factory-programmed ASF correction
points.
To display Phantom Loran TDs as position coordinates, select
Phantom Loran as the position source, as described below.
1. Press the 67$5 key until the USER CUSTOMIZATION
screen is displayed.
2. Press the 1$9,*$7,21 237,216 menu key. The NAVIGA-
TION SOURCE line is designated by the cursor arrow.
3. Press the (',7 menu key. The cursor begins flashing.
4. Press the &85625 3$' to display PHANTOM LRN as the
position source.
5. If you change your mind, press &/($5 to restore the orig-
inal setting; otherwise, press the (17(5 key, then the
5(7851 menu key, then the 326,7,21 key.
