Chapter 4 - Using Charts
Approach buoys and all other nav aids are identical to those in
the 951.
When you move the screen's cursor on top of a nav-aid sym-
bol, descriptive information is displayed at the bottom of the
screen in the INFO BAR, along with the distance and bearing
from your vessel to the nav aid.
Sound buoys (featuring an audible signal, such as a bell, gong,
or whistle) are also identified by the descriptive information
shown in the INFO BAR at the bottom of the screen. When you
move the cursor on top of the nav aid to display its descriptive
information, the word BELL, WHIS, GONG, or HORN is shown,
indicating the type of buoy displayed.
Some nav aids have no corresponding chart symbol and are
indicated on the CHART screen only as text. These nav aids
don't have any additional information available in the INFO
BAR at the bottom of the screen.
Other widely visible objects not specifically classified as "aids
Landmarks
to navigation" are also shown on the charts. They include rec-
ognizable onshore landmarks, such as smokestacks and radio
antennas.
