detail when zoomed in below 64 nm, and in many cases pro-
vide extreme detail down to the ¼-mile scale. The smaller the
box, the greater the detail included on the chart for that area.
Depth
The ON setting displays depth contour lines for low, mid, and
deep water areas, for any or all of the three depth levels.
Track line
The ON setting displays your vessel's track line (the course
you've already traveled). Turning the track line to OFF might
help to eliminate potential confusion with chart edges, lat/lon
lines, etc., displayed on the CHART screen. For more track dis-
play options, see "Changing the track control" on page 56.
Waypoints
The ON setting displays user-entered waypoints. Turn this
option to OFF if you don't want to display waypoints on the
CHART screen; this option is useful for eliminating waypoint
"clutter" when displaying an area containing many waypoints
that are grouped close together.
Nav aids
The ON setting displays nav aids from the Nav-Chart cartridge.
The OFF setting hides nav-aid symbols to eliminate confusion
among waypoints positioned extremely close to nav aids.
Land mass
The ON setting displays the "coloring" of land masses. The OFF
setting displays only coastlines.
Most charts are calibrated to one of the standard datums used
by cartographers. (To select the correct datum for your chart,
see the Northstar 951/952 Installation Manual.) Some paper
charts of less-traveled areas are based on old, incorrect sur-
