Chapter 11 - Customizing the Unit
Advancing
waypoints
automatically or
manually
Page 154
The unit can be set either to advance automatically to the next
waypoint upon arrival at each waypoint, or to switch way-
points manually.
When set to automatic switching, the unit displays new dis-
tance and bearing information for the next waypoint upon
arrival at the previous one. It immediately stops navigating
when a lone waypoint—or the last waypoint in a route—has
been passed.
Manual switching may be desirable when maneuvering
around a waypoint to find a lobster trap, or when trying to
locate a buoy in dense fog. It lets you maintain a constant dis-
play of distance and bearing information for the particular
waypoint you're using, until you instruct the unit otherwise.
When the unit is set to manual switching, you must change
manually to the next waypoint each time you arrive at the cur-
rent waypoint. To do so, press the 1$9 /2* key, select the
next leg or waypoint if necessary, press the 5(67$57 menu
key, and then press the (17(5 key.
To change this option, press the (',7 menu key. Then press
the &85625 3$' to view the choices. Press the (17(5 key to
make your selection, or &/($5 to leave the option
unchanged.
Setting an arrival radius
You've "arrived" at a waypoint when you enter the circle deter-
mined by the waypoint's arrive radius, or when you pass the
perpendicular of the end point of the current leg you're follow-
ing. The unit signals that you've arrived by flashing the alert
symbol (a flashing exclamation point) in the lower-right por-
tion of the display. To acknowledge and clear the alert, press
the 67$5 key to display the ALARMS screen (952) or ALARMS
& BACKLIGHT screen (951), then press the &/($5 $/$50
menu key; or, you can wait until it automatically self-clears
once you've left the arrive circle. (For more on the unit's vari-
ous alarms, see "Understanding the alarms" starting on page
132.)
The ARRIVE RADIUS factory default setting is 0.02 nautical
miles (approximately 120 feet). To change it:
