viously-saved waypoints with your new ones. You can rename
any saved waypoints to make them permanent, provided you
do so before they're overwritten.
To provide a substantial measure of theft protection for your
Northstar 951/952, you can enter a personalized owner identi-
fication message using an access code. This code is mailed to
you when you return your product registration card to North-
star. The owner's message function asks you to enter this spe-
cial four-digit code before you're allowed to change the
owner's message.
Once you've received your registered owner access code card,
you can enter your individual owner ID message.
Press the (',7 menu key. A question window appears, asking
you to enter your password. Enter the "access code" number
from your Northstar owner's card and press the (17(5 key.
The first character block of the owner's message flashes. Enter
the message (up to two lines) that you want displayed each
time you power-up your unit, and press the (17(5 key.
Your message can be changed only by entering your specific
access code number and repeating the above procedure. The
unit allows three attempts at entering the correct access code;
after that, all operations "freeze," requiring the user to shut
power off, then turn it back on again to resume functioning.
The 952 offers three different color-palette choices for its dis-
play screen:
normal (the factory default)
hi brite (best for bright daylight conditions)
night (best for nighttime conditions)
The hi brite and night options provides for optimal viewing in
bright sun or nighttime conditions. The hi brite palette fea-
tures the same, but brighter, colors as the normal palette, in
which water is displayed in white and land areas are displayed
in brown. In the night palette, water is displayed in black, land
areas are displayed in green, and text on the chart screens is
displayed in magenta.
