Setting Admin User Privileges via a Telnet
Connection

Administrator User Privileges

Up to 10 usernames/passwords can be defined for login use via a telnet session or
Web GUI (i.e., http) session on the D9824 receiver.
When a user tries to login via a telnet or http connection, the user is required to
provide a username and a password. The user is granted access only if this
username/password pair exists in the authentication table.
The factory preset "Admin" account has Admin privileges and is allowed to add new
users, delete users, change usernames, and modify its own passwords. Users with
non-Admin privileges (for example, User and Guest) are only allowed to modify
their own passwords.

Starting a Telnet Session

To start a communication session with the receiver, use a utility such as Tera Term
Pro or PuTTY.
Proceed as follows to log into a new connection using Tera Term:

In the New Connection window, enter the IP address in the Host field.

Select Telnet and enter 23 in the TCP port # field.

Click OK.

At the Login prompt, type the default username,

At the D9824 prompt, type

At the NEW USERNAME prompt, type a new username and press Enter.

At the NEW PASSWORD prompt, type a new password and press Enter.
Note: The new password must follow the rules configured in the Password
Complexity parameter. For more information, see Configuring the User Login
Passwords (on page 203) for the web GUI or Setup Menu: IP (on page 64) for the
Front Panel.

At the CONFIRM NEW PASSWORD prompt, type the new password again and
press Enter.
Note: The New Password and Confirm New Password should be identical.
