Replacement of 221S RAID Unit Components

Section 1: Introduction
This job card contains information about replacement of RAID components.
Section 2: Items Required

The replacement FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) must be available (Refer to RAID FRU list in
Chapter 9)
u
Philips screwdrivers (Nos. 1 and 2)
u
Anti-static guard grounding wrist strap
Section 3: Procedure
All replaceable modules in the Dell PowrVault 221S RAID unit have built-in fault indicator lights. In
genral a lighted amber indicator indicates a fault condition. For a hard drive, a flashing amber
indicator indicates a drive failure.
To avoid data loss in the RAID unit, a hard drive must be prepared for replacement with the array
manager software that is provided on the Dell OpenManager software CD.
The Dell documentation for the RAID unit contains all necessary details about diagnosing and repair
faults with detailed replacement procedures and illustrations.
