Procedure
Step 1 Determine a connection mode.
The methods of connecting maintenance terminals and managing the N8500 are provided as
follows:
l Connecting the management network port to the maintenance terminal
l Connecting the serial port to the maintenance terminal
Step 2 Connect the maintenance terminal to the CNEN
l Connecting the management network port to the maintenance terminal
l Connecting the serial port to the maintenance terminal

6.20 Connecting SUCs to the Maintenance Terminal (PC)

This section explains how to connect SUCs to the PC. After connecting an SUC to the
maintenance terminal through the separate management network port on the SUC, you can
manage and maintain SUCs and SUDs on the PC.

The maintenance terminal is connected to all the CNEN management network ports and logs
in to the ISM using the console IP address configured for a management network port. In
this way, the maintenance terminal can initialize and manage the configurations of the entire
system.
The maintenance terminal manages a CNEN on the Command Line Interface (CLI) through
the CNEN's serial port. This management mode is used only when you remove faults.
1. Insert one end of each network cable respectively to the management network port of
each CNEN.
2. Connect the other end of each network cable to the Ethernet switch that is connected to
the maintenance terminal.
1. Insert one end of the RJ-45 serial cable to a specified CNEN serial port.
2. Connect the other end (DB9 or RJ45 connector) of the serial port to a serial port on the
maintenance terminal.
