Troubleshooting

Sensor Not Seeing Packets

If the sensor is not seeing any packets on the network, you could have the interfaces set up incorrectly.
If the sensor is not seeing packets, follow these steps:
Log in to the CLI.
Step 1
Make sure the interfaces are up and receiving packets:

sensor# show interfaces GigabitEthernet0/1

Missed Packet Percentage = 0
Inline Mode = Unpaired

Total Multicast Packets Received = 0
Total Broadcast Packets Received = 0
Total Jumbo Packets Received = 0
Total Undersize Packets Received = 0
Total Receive Errors = 0
Total Receive FIFO Overruns = 0
Total Packets Transmitted = 0
Total Bytes Transmitted = 0
Total Multicast Packets Transmitted = 0
Total Broadcast Packets Transmitted = 0
Total Jumbo Packets Transmitted = 0
Total Undersize Packets Transmitted = 0
Total Transmit Errors = 0

If the interfaces are not up, do the following:

Check the cabling.
Refer to the chapter in Installing Cisco Intrusion Prevention System Appliances and Modules 5.0that
pertains to your sensor for information on installing the sensor properly.
Enable the interface.
sensor# configure terminal
sensor(config)# service interface
