Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Test/Replacement
1. Remove the spare tire lid.
2. Remove the access panel f r o m the floor.
3. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then disconnect the
fuel p u m p 5P connector.
4. Remove the fuel fill cap.
5. Relieve the fuel pressure (see page 11-115).
6. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings f r o m the fuel
p u m p .
7. Remove the bolts (A) and the fuel tank unit (B).

(0.4 k g f m , 3 Ibf-ft)
8. Measure the resistance between the No. 1 and No.
2 terminals w i t h the float at E (EMPTY), 1/2 (HALF
FULL), and F (FULL) positions.
If you do not get the f o l l o w i n g readings, replace the
fuel gauge sending unit (A).

9. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal
w i t h a new base gasket and new quick connect
fittings, then check these items;
• When connecting the w i r e harness, make sure
the connection is secure and the terminal (B) is
firmly locked into place.
• Check that the tab of the clamp (C) does not
interfere w i t h the w i r e harness.
• Do not fold over the lower part of the mesh filter
(D).
• When installing the fuel gauge sending unit (A),
make sure the connection is secure and the
connector is f i r m l y locked into place. Be careful
not to bend or twist it excessively.
