Special Tools Required
• P/S j o i n t adapter (pump), 07RAK-S040110
• P/S j o i n t adapter (hose), 07RAK-S040121
• P/S pressure gauge, 07406-0010001
Check the f l u i d pressure as follows to determine
w h e t h e r t h e trouble is in the p u m p or gearbox.
1. Check the power steering fluid level (see page 17-
14) a n d p u m p belt tension (see page 17-12).
2. Disconnect the p u m p outlet hose (A) f r o m the
p u m p outlet w i t h care so as not to spill the power
steering fluid on the frame and other parts, then
install the P/S joint adapter (pump) on the p u m p
outlet (B).

3. Connect the P/S joint adapter (hose) to the P/S
pressure gauge, then connect the p u m p outlet hose
(A) to the P/S joint adapter (hose).
4. Install the P/S pressure gauge to the P/S joint
adapter (pump).
5. Fully open the shut-off valve (A).

6. Fully open the pressure control valve (B).
7. Start the engine and let it idle.
8. Turn the steering wheel f r o m lock-to-lock several
times to w a r m the fluid to operating temperature.
Measure steady-state fluid pressure while the
engine is idling. If the p u m p is in good condition,
the gauge should read less than 1,500 kPa (15 kgf/
c m 2 , 213 psi).
If it reads high, check for:
• Clogged or deformed feed or return line between the
p u m p and gearbox
• Clogged valve body unit
Close the pressure control valve, then close the
shut-off valve gradually until the pressure gauge
needle is stable. Read the pressure.
NOTICE!
Do not keep the pressure control valve
closed more than 5 seconds or the pump
could be damaged by over-heating.
11. Immediatery open the pressure control valve fully.
If the pump is in good condition, the gauge should
read at least 7,200-7,800 kPa ( 7 3 - 8 0 kgf/cm
2 ,
1,040—1,140 psi). A l o w reading means p u m p
output is too l o w for full assist. Repair or replace
the pump.
