Deflection Method
Inspection
1. Apply a force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22 Ibf) and measure
the deflection between the power steering pump
pulley (A) and the crankshaft pulley (B). If the belt is
worn or damaged, replace it.
Deflection:
Used Belt:
New Belt:
1 3 . 0 - 1 6 . 0 mm (0.51 - 0 . 6 3 in.)
11.0 - 1 2 . 5 mm (0.43 - 0.49 in.)
If you installed a new belt, run the engine for 5
minutes, then readjust the belt to the used belt
specification.
Adjustment
3. Loosen the power steering pump mounting bolt (A)
and pump lock bolt (B).

2 2 N m (2.2 k g f m , 1 6 I b f f t )
2 2 N m (2.2 k g f m , 1 6 I b f f t )
4. Adjust the belt tension by moving the power
steering pump with a 1/2" drive breaker bar to
obtain the proper belt tension, then retighten the
mounting bolt and lock bolt.
5. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from
lock-to-lock several times, then stop the engine and
recheck the tension of the belt.
