Alternator-A/C Compressor Belt Inspection and Adjustment
Special Tools Required
Belt tension gauge 07JGG-001010A
Belt Tension Gauge M e t h o d
Inspection
1. Remove the three bolts f r o m the left end of the
splash shield, and pull it back as needed.
2. Attach the belt tension gauge to the belt and
measure the tension. Follow the gauge
manufacturer's instructions. If the belt is w o r n or
damaged, replace it. If the belt needs adjustment,
go to step 3.
Tension:
Used Belt:
4 9 0 - 590 N ( 5 0 - 60 kgf, 1 1 0 - 1 3 0 Ibf)
New Belt:
1,030-1,130 N ( 1 0 5 - 1 1 5 kgf, 231 -
254 Ibf)
A

0 7 J G G - 0 0 1 0 1 0 A
8 x 1.25 m m
2 2 N m (2.2 k g f m , 16 Ibf ft)
Adjustment
3. Loosen the mounting bolt (A) and locknut (B).
4. Turn the adjusting bolt (C) to obtain the proper belt
tension, then retighten the locknut and m o u n t i n g
bolt.
5. Recheckthe belt tension.
6. If you installed a new belt, run the engine for 5
minutes, then readjust the belt to the used belt
specification.
7. Check the power steering p u m p belt adjustment
(see page 17-12).
Deflection Method
Inspection
1. Apply a force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22 Ibf), and measure
the deflection at the m i d point (A) between the
alternator and crankshaft pulley. If the belt is w o r n
or d a m a g e d , replace it. If the belt needs adjustment,
go to step 2.
Deflection:
Used Belt:

2 2 N m (2.2 k g f m , 1 6 Ibf-ft)
Adjustment
2. Loosen the m o u n t i n g bolt (B) and locknut (C).
3. Turn the adjusting bolt (D) to obtain the proper belt
tension, then retighten the locknut and mounting
bolt.
4. Recheckthe belt tension.
5. If you installed a new belt, run the engine for 5
minutes, then readjust the belt to the used belt
specification.
6. Check the power steering p u m p belt adjustment
(see page 17-12).
