The scanner fails to move forward/in reverse.

Checks
1 Is the drive cable routed correctly?
2 Is the rail free of dirt? Does the mirror
mount move smoothly when pushed
by hand?
3 Is the scanner home position sensor
(PS37) normal? (See the instructions
on how to check photointerrupters.)
4 Are the connection of the following
connectors and the wiring between
the connectors normal?
J602 on the scanner motor driver
PCB
J1306 on the reader unit controller
PCB
5 Set the meter to the 50VDC range,
and measure the voltage between
the following terminals on the scan-
ner motor driver. Is it normal?
J601-2 (+) and –1 (–): about 5 V
J601-4 (+) and –3 (–): about 8 V
J601-6 (+) and –5 (–): about 24 V
6 Replace the scanner motor driver. Is
the problem corrected?
Yes/No

NO Re-route the cable.
NO Check the rail for dirt or
foreign object; as neces-
sary, clean or lubricate.
If the surface of
the rail is soiled,
REF.
use alcohol to
clean it; then,
apply a small
amount of
silicone oil
available for the
fixing roller.
NO Check the wiring and
light-blocking plate; if
normal, replace the
sensor.
NO Re-connect it.
NO See "DC power is ab-
sent."
YES End.
NO Replace the scanner
motor.
