14.1.3 GPON ONU Capability Set

This topic describes the supported hardware capability, features, and network position of ONUs
on a GPON FTTM access network.
In FTTx V100R013C00, the MA5694S, MA5698, MA5898, MA5612, MA5628 and MA5673
mainly apply to the FTTM access service.

Description
ONUs receive the ETH
service data from 3G base
stations through FE/GE ports,
encapsulate the ETH packets
into GEM frames, and then
send them to the OLT through
the GPON upstream ports.
The OLT restores the ETH
signals and configures QinQ
VLANs for the signals to
enable the data of base
stations to be transparently
transmitted to the remote
PTN over the public network.
Then the remote PTN device
restores the ETH signals.
User Interface
As an outdoor box-type device, MA5694S is used for
data backhaul of small cell base stations. It provides the
following interfaces:
l 1*GE optical interface for Ethernet access
l 3*GE electrical interfaces for Ethernet access, power
on Ethernet is supported
l 1*GPON interface for upstream
