CAUTION
SBC330 boards dissipate too much power to remain within operational temperatures if used
without a cooling mechanism at room temperature.
SBC330 build levels 1 to 3 must not be powered unless there is airflow of 300 LFM
(levels 1 and 2) or 600 LFM (level 3) present. SBC330 build levels 4 and 5 must not
be powered unless the wedge‐locks securing them to the conduction‐cooled
chassis have been tightened to provide a path for heat flow.
CAUTION
Do not use SBC330 on an extender card unless there is a suitable fan to provide the required
airflow.
3.3.1 Checklist
Before powering‐up, check that the user jumpers are configured as desired for
boot. This is described in detail in Chapter 4 •
rack, ensure that the board is orientated correctly)
3.3.2 Power-up
The SBC330 board's power requirements are up to 15 A @ 5 V (50 W) from
VS3(VCC), operating within the VPX Specification limits (5 V +5 % ‐2.5 %). The
VPX P3V3_AUX voltage rail is required only for supplying the Real Time Clock in
the absence of system power.
WARNING
Do not exceed the maximum rated input voltages or apply reversed bias to the assembly. If
such conditions occur, toxic fumes may be produced due to the destruction of components.
You can now power‐up the unit. As the SBC330 runs through its boot sequence,
the monitor (COM1, COM2) should display the initialization progress.
To interact with the SBC330, the minimum requirement is a control terminal such
as PC‐based Windows 'HyperTerminal' connection present on the serial COM1
port. An Ethernet connection is required for Host/Target interaction until the
kernel/application software is stored in Flash.
At GEIP, TeraTerm is used as it allows long scroll buffers, which is useful in
debug.
For development systems, connection to the Serial and Ethernet I/O can be
achieved using the SBC330RTM‐11 Rear Transition Module. This converts the
pinout of the SBC330 in the VPX backplane connectors to industry‐standard I/O
connectors.
