Stapler
Stapling is performed by the staple motor (M11). For each rotation of the cam, the cam home
position is checked by the stapling home position sensor (PI19). The microprocessor (IC121) of the
finisher controller PCB controls the stapler motor, rotating it clockwise or counterclockwise.
When the stapler home position sensor is off, the finisher controller PCB rotates the stapler motor
counterclockwise until the sensor turns on to return the stapling cam to its initial state.
The presence of a staple cartridge is checked by the staple cartridge switch (MSW4), while the
presence of staples inside the cartridge is checked by the staple switch (MSW3). The staple edging
sensor (PI18) is used to find out whether the staples inside the staple cartridge have been edged to the
tip of the stapler.
The power line to the stapler motor (M11) is connected and disconnected by the microswitches
shown in Table 2-503, serving as a safety measure to prevent injuries.
