Oil Pressure Switch
Testing
1.
Remove the
YEL/RED wire from the engine oil pres-
sure
switch.
2.
Check
for
continuity between
the
positive terminal
and
the
engine
(ground).
There
should
be
continuity
with
the
engine stopped.
There
should be no
conti-
nuity
with
the engine
running
.

Apply liquid sealant
to the
threads.
3.
If
the switch
fails to
operate,
check the engine oil
level. If
the engine oil
level
is
OK,
check the engine
oil
pressure.
Oil Pressure
Testing
If the
oil
pressure
warning
light stays on with the
engine
running.
check
the engine
oil
leveL If the
oil
level is
COf-
rect:
1.
Connect a
tachometer.
2.
Remove the
engine oil
pressure
switch, and
install
an
oil
pressure gauge.

Start the
engine.
Shut it off
immediately if the gauge
registers no
oil
pressure,
Repair the
problem
before
continuing.
4.
Allow the engine to reach
operating
temperature
(fan
comes
o
n
at
least
twice).
The pressure
should
be:

At
Idle:
70 kP. (0.7

minimum
At 3,000
rpm:
340 kPa (3.5 kgf/cm', 50

If oil pressure in not within
specifications, inspect
the
oil pump
(see
page
8·91.
