DCN NG | Installation and User Instructions | Section 1 | Introduction
2.6
Simplified wiring
Gone are the days of complex wiring through bulky
trunking. The system overview (see figure 2.2) shows the
cables used in the system. The DCN cables are used to
transport all signals to all contribution and
interpretation units throughout the system, and can be
'tapped' at any desired point to connect extra
contribution units or other equipment, thus giving rise
to a 'branched-tree' topology. In this way, future
extensions to the system capacity, such as adding extra
microphone units, do not require alterations to the
existing system cabling. The power is also supplied to all
units via two wires in the same cable. The central
control equipment communicates over an optical fiber
network. This network can also be 'tapped' at any point
and therefore brings the same advantages as the DCN
cabling.
Installation is further simplified and speeded up by the
use of splitters and ready-made cables with sturdy,
moulded connectors, thus allowing easy insertion of
contribution equipment at any desired point in the
system cabling. These easy-to-connect accessories are
used for both fixed and portable installations, making
DCN NG a versatile system that can be installed quickly
and efficiently in any conference situation.
