2. Install:
Cylinder head

TIP
Pass the timing chain through the timing chain
cavity.
3. Tighten:
Cylinder head bolts "1" – "10"

Refer to "ENGINE TIGHTENING TORQUES"
on page 2-15
Cylinder head bolt
1st: 19 Nm (1.9 m·kgf, 14 ft·lbf)
2nd: 50 Nm (5.0 m·kgf, 36 ft·lbf)
*3rd: 12 Nm (1.2 m·kgf, 8.6 ft·lbf)
+120° ° ° °
*Loosen the bolt and retighten to specifica-
tion torque.
Cylinder head bolts "11" "12"
G
Cylinder head bolt
12 Nm (1.2 m·kgf, 8.7 ft·lbf)
TIP
Lubricate the cylinder head bolts with engine
G
oil.
Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the proper
G
tightening sequence as shown and torque
them in three stages.

4. Install:
Exhaust camshaft

Intake camshaft

MEASURING THE COMPRESSION
PRESSURE
The following procedure applies to all of the cyl-
inders.
TIP
Insufficient compression pressure will result in a
loss of performance.
1. Measure:
Valve clearance
G
Out of specification → Adjust.
Refer to "ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEAR-
ANCE" on page 3-5.
2. Start the engine, warm it up for several min-
utes, and then turn it off.
3. Remove:
Seat

Refer to "GENERAL CHASSIS" on page 4-1.
Fuel tank
G
Refer to "FUEL TANK" on page 7-1.
Air filter case
G
Refer to "GENERAL CHASSIS" on page 4-1.
Rubber cover
G
Refer to "AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM" on
page 7-11.
4. Disconnect:
Spark plug caps
G
5. Remove:
Spark plugs
G

Before removing the spark plugs, use com-
pressed air to blow away any dirt accumulat-
ed in the spark plug wells to prevent it from
falling into the cylinders.
6. Install:
