Arm bar
As the lens position varies according to the magnifica-
tion ratio, the lens to lens distance is varied to obtain the
focus according to the given magnification ratio.
The
lens to lens distance
is varied according
to the
position of the lens slide lever, and the movement of the
lens slide lever is controlled by the inclination of the arm
bar and the carriage movement.
(Do not replace the single component
of the arm bar,
but replace it with a whole lens base unit.)
The locations of the exposure control plates, A and B,
change by the position of the arm bar inclination and
carriage movement,
in accordance with variation in the
magnification ratio.

Mask plate
Used to detect the lens position. It has a slit cut at each
magnification ratio.

Lens sensor
It is a photoelectric sensor used to sense the lens loca-
tion.

Carriage
On the carriage is mounted the lens, stepping motor, and
exposure control plates. Never try to replace the carriage
by single components.
It must be replaced by the lens
base unit.

The stepping motor is used to move the carriage accord-
ing to the magnification ratio.
(3) Blank lamp and void lamp

Blank lamp and void lamp
The blank lamp is integral with the void lamp. If a copy
is made on paper that is larger than the reduced image in
the reduce copy
mode,
it would
make
the unimaged
portion
(shadowed
portion)
black.
Toner
remains
outside of the original image area in other copy modes
because of the change remained
on the drum. This
residual toner is cleaned by applying light from the blank
lamp to prevent a deposit of toner outside of the original
image
area.
In addition,
light from
the void
lamp is
applied over the remover tape contact portion on the
drum to prevent a deposit of the toner on the void area.

Installation of the lamp
The location of the blank/void lamp differs, depending
on the AB and inch series.
