Settings

The function does not have any parameters available in Local HMI or Protection and Control IED
Manager (PCM600).
9.2.6

Operation principle

When receiving the input signals, DPGGIO sends the signals over IEC 61850-8-1 to the systems,
equipment or functions that requests and thus subscribes on these signals. To be able to get the
signals into other systems, equipment or functions, one must use other tools, described in the
Engineering manual, and define which function block in which systems, equipment or functions
should receive this information.
More specifically, DPGGIO function reports a combined double point position indication output
POSITION evaluated from its input values.
When the input signal VALID is active, the values of the OPEN and CLOSE inputs determine the two-
bit integer value of the output POSITION. The output timestamp will be set to the system time when
the function block actually executed.
When the input signal VALID is inactive, DPGGIO function forces the position to intermediate state.
When the value of the input signal VALID changes, the output timestamp will be set to the system
time when the function block actually executed.

Functionality

Traditionally, closing and opening commands will switch the circuit breaker at random instant of
voltage or current wave, without considering the optimal point of switching. Controlled switching
defines the use of numerical IEDs to determine the optimal switching point of the load on the system
voltage wave. To cater the above requirement, a POW (point-on-wave) controller must be able to
deliver synchronized switching commands for future switching instants on the voltage or current
waveform for independent poles or phases. This optimal switching operation leads to minimization of
stress across the arcing contacts of the circuit breaker and minimizes the inrush current. The POW
controller also takes into account the statistical nature of circuit breaker in terms of mechanical and
