Setting example
The setting example for a 132kV OHL is given here.
Line positive sequence impedance is Z1=(3.4+j*18.7) Ω.
Line zero sequence impedance is Z0=(10.1+j*70.8) Ω.

Description
Select appropriate Global Base Value Group (for example, No 1). It is important to set the
base values because they define the basic pickup levels (100%) for 3Io and 3Uo. See
8.17.2.2
for more details. It shall use the same Global Base Values as the Distance Protection
for example.
Enables or disables operation of the whole function.
Defines if the function shall trip for earth faults in the forward direction, or if only start
signaling is allowed.
Defines the minimum pulse duration for all the start and trip signals from the function. Only
exception is STUN signal.
Minimum pickup level for the 3Uo voltage feature. The default value is 30% of
sqrt(3)*UBase. The operation of this feature arms the whole function to operate. However,
do not set this setting so low to cause its operation due to unbalanced 3Uo voltage in the
protected network. If this stage is active for a long time, the function will be completely
disabled. Operation of this stage is indicated by the binary output signal STUN.
The reset level is fixed to 80% of the set pickup level for this feature.
Minimum pickup level for the 3Io current. The operation of this feature arms the whole
function for operation. The default value is 5% of IBase which provides a good balance
between security and dependability. This default value is recommended for most
applications.
Operation of this feature is internally held for some time in order to secure proper
operation of the function for an actual EF.
Defines the minimum pickup level of integrated current for forward earth faults. The default
value is 2.5% of IBase. The default value is recommended for most applications.
Defines the minimum pickup level of integrated current for reverse earth faults. The default
value is 1.5% of IBase. The default value is recommended for most applications. It is
recommended to avoid a lower setting value than 50% of the set value for the
setting. Otherwise security of the function can be compromised.
This timer is started with the STUN signal. When this timer expires, the STFW or STRV is
issued from the function. The default setting of 150ms is recommended to suppress
indications for transient earth faults.
WRNFW is not delayed by this timer.
This is a drop-off timer which is internally added to the STUN signal. Once this timer
expires, the function is completely reset, including the intermittent earth-fault counter. The
default value of 0.5s is recommended for most applications.
Time delay to trip when an earth fault is detected in the forward direction. This timer is
started with the STFW signal if this operation is enabled by the setting
Defines the number of repeating earth-faults seen in the forward direction before the
intermittent start signal STIEF is given from the function.
Defines if supervision for the cross-country faults is enabled.
Defines the minimum pickup level for 3Io current to detect cross country fault conditions.
Defines the time delay before the cross country fault is alarmed. The default value of 0.03s
is recommended for most applications. Operation of this stage is indicated by the binary
output signal ALMCC. This binary signal has fixed drop-off delay of 0.2s.
Defines the minimum pickup level for 3Io current to detect a circulating current condition.
Defines the time delay before a circulating current condition is detected. The default value
of 10s is recommended for most applications. Operation of this stage is indicated by the
binary output signal ALMCIRI. This binary signal has a fixed drop-off delay of 0.5s.
