2.5 Process Applications

The SLG 700 Level transmitter is designed to work with a wide range of process
conditions. Single fluids or interface measurements can be made.
Measurements can be made in turbulent conditions or foaming conditions. However, in
some situations special precautions must be taken.

2.5.1 Turbulence

Turbulence can result in the following measurement issues:

2.5.2 Foam

Foam on the surface of the material being measured can influence the
measurement. While light foaming would have no influence at all, very heavy
foam can degrade the measuring signal. . Foam can result in:

2.5.3 Emulsions

An emulsion layer can often exit that disrupts the interface refection in interface
applications. This can result in:
In the presence of emulsions, better sensor performances can sometimes be obtained by
enabling amplitude tracking (See Section 2.3.1).
Revision 7
The height of the surface reflection appears smaller.
The level measurements display higher variability.
The height of the surface reflection appearing smaller.
The level measurements display higher variability.
Loss of accuracy.
The height of the interface reflection appearing smaller.
The interface level measurements display higher variability.
Loss of interface accuracy and in severe cases the loss of the interface
reflection.
