Protecting the Boot Manager with a Password

To prevent accidental or unauthorized access to the IP500 Series appliance
hard-disk drive unit, you can require that the user enter a password to access
the
install
password.
Note
The password you enter here is the password that gives you access to
the install command in boot manager, not access to IPSO.
To set a password, perform the following steps:
1. At the boot-manager command prompt enter:
BOOTMGR[0]> passwd

2. If the unit is protected by a password, enter your current password.
3. The program prompts you for the new password.
4. Enter the new password.
5. The program prompts you to reenter the new password for verification.
6. Enter the new password again.
If you forgot your password, the boot manager requires you to prove that you
have physical access to the unit before allowing you to set a new one.
To create a new password
1. Turn off the power to the IP500 Series appliance.
2. Remove the hard-disk drive unit from the IP500 Series appliance.
3. Turn on the power to the IP500 Series appliance.
4. Reexecute the passwd command from the boot manager.
5. Enter your new password.
