Initial Configuration
If you use a cable modem, you may need to configure the MAC Clone Settings. (Contact your ISP
for more information.)
If your service uses a specific PC MAC address, then select yes from the Enable MAC Clone Service

If you are using static IP addressing, complete the following steps:
a. Select Static IP from the Connection Type drop-down menu.
b. In the Static IP Settings section, enter the IP address in the Static IP field, the subnet mask in the
NetMask field, and the default gateway IP address in the Gateway field.
c. In the Optional Settings section, enter the DNS server address(es) in the Primary DNS and optional
Secondary DNS fields.
If you are using PPPoE, complete the following steps:
a. Select PPPoE from the Connection Type drop-down menu.
This is the correct setting for most DSL users.
b. Enter the values provided by the ITSP in the following fields:
• PPPoE Login Name
• PPPoE Login Password
• PPPoE Service Name
Configure the Linksys ATA parameters on the Line tab with the appropriate values for the specific ITSP.
Step 4
If the Linksys ATA has more than one Line tab, each line tab must be configured separately. Each line
tab can be configured for a different ITSP.
The minimum required configuration to connect the Linksys ATA to an ITSP includes configuring the
following parameters on the appropriate Line tab with the values provided for a specific ITSP:
• User ID (Subscriber Information section)
• Password (Subscriber Information section)
• Proxy (Proxy and Registration section)
Other parameters may need to be changed from the defaults, depending on the requirements of a specific
ITSP. Some of the commonly changed sections include the following:
Streaming Audio Server—to enable an external music source for enabling music on hold (see the

• NAT Settings—to workaround NAT issues (see the

• Subscriber Information—to configure security parameters (see the

• Dial Plan—to configure a dial plan for a specific line (see the

Step 5 After making any necessary changes to the Linksys ATA parameters, click the Submit All Changes
button.
The changes are saved, the Linksys ATA reboots, and the configuration changes are applied to the
running configuration.
