About Error Correction Mode (ECM)
Sometimes when sending a fax, line noise and
interference can cause characters on the fax to be
distorted. ECM (when turned on) automatically corrects
the distorted portions of the fax.
If line conditions are bad, fax transmission time will
increase.
ECM will not work unless the receiving fax machine
also has ECM.
When the recipient's fax machine is
using A4 size paper
Originals larger than A4 size are automatically reduced
and sent. (See page 1-9)
Sometimes when an original is reduced and sent, it may
be difficult to read.
Automatic reduction can be turned off with a user
program. (See page Appendix-18)
When the recipient's telephone is busy
When the recipient's telephone is busy, the fax
automatically redials and attempts to send the fax
according to the settings in user programs P111, P112. If
the call goes through, but there is no answer for 45
seconds (this time can be changed with user program
P116 # OF RINGS AUTO TX SETTING), the fax
automatically redials and attempts to send the fax
according to the settings in user programs P113, P114.
This function is called recall.
To not redial, press the FUNCTION key and then cancel
the fax transmission. (See page 2-13)
* With a user program, you can change the number and
interval of redial attempts as well as the maximum
number of rings for each dial attempt. (See page
Appendix-10, Appendix-11)
About manual sending and receiving
You can perform manual sending and receiving with the
extension telephone.
When there are no originals in the SPF or on the original
table, press the START key to receive.
When there are originals in the SPF or on the original
table, you can select manual sending or receiving. (See
page 2-18)
Receiving a fax while preparing to send a fax
When set to automatic reception mode you can
automatically receive faxes or receive faxes in memory
(substitute reception). (See page 2-17)
When the fax is set to manual reception mode.
You pick up the extension telephone and converse. When
receiving a fax, press the "5
telephone (see page Appendix-8). After pressing the keys
on the extension telephone, replace the handset.
* When sending a fax, picking up the extension telephone
cancels the sending operation.
Press the CLEAR ALL key to cancel the sending
operation, then press the SPEAKER key and remove
the originals, and finally press the START key. You
can also choose to leave the originals in place, press
the START key, and receive the fax.
