TROUBLESHOOTING
When the fax function has a problem and does not function properly, please try to identify the problem using the following
chart.
Problem
Nothing happens.
You cannot dial.
You cannot send.
Nothing is printed at the
receiving end.
A distorted image is received
on the other end.
The paper does not output.
Received fax comes out blank.
The received original is faint.
Received images are distorted.
The fax received on the other
end has vertical lines printed
on it.
You do not receive a fax when
polling.
No dial tone.
No ringing.

Check to see if there is an error message on
the message display.
Make sure that the telephone line type is correctly set.
Make sure that the telephone line is properly inserted in the socket on the adapter and
the socket on the machine.
Also confirm that the adapter is correctly inserted in the wall socket.
Make sure that the power is on.
Make sure that the machine is in fax mode.
The recipient's fax is out of paper.
The recipient's fax machine is not G3
compatible.
The recipient's fax machine is not set up to
receive.
Make sure that the original is of a transmittable size.
Make sure that the original is placed correctly.
If thermal paper is set in the recipient's fax
machine, check that the correct side is facing up.
The phone line condition is poor due to
lightning or an electrical storm.
Make sure the resolution and exposure are properly set.
Make sure there are no misfeeds.
Make sure the fax machine is not out of paper. Add paper.
The sender set the paper incorrectly.
Make sure you are using paper of the proper specification.
The printing on the actual original is faint.
The phone line condition is poor due to
lightning or an electrical storm.
The original table, the bottom of the SPF, or
the bottom of the platen cover is dirty.
Make sure the fax machine is not out of paper. Add paper.
The other fax is set to automatic reception.
There is a original set in the document feeder
of the other fax machine, or there is no data in
the memory of the other fax machine.
Polling security is set on the other fax
machine, and you are not authorized to poll
that fax machine.
The other fax machine cannot use the polling
function in G3 mode.
The Beeper is set to OFF.
The speaker/ringer is set to OFF.
Check and Remedy
Fix the problem according the the error
indicated.
Check with the recipient.
The original should be placed face up
in the SPF, and face down on the
original table.
Check with the recipient.
Resend the original.
Check with the sender.
Ask the sender to correct the exposure
and resend the original.
Ask the sender to resend the original.
Clean the affected areas.
Check the other fax machine.
Set the beeper volume to low, middle,
or high.
Set the speaker/ringer volume to low,
middle, or high.
