consisting of a central data acquisition computer (DAq),
a programmable logic controller (PLC) and one or more
analyzer modules.

Above is a simplified block diagram of the communications
path of the control system. The analyzer modules and
PLC are microprocessor controlled and contain non-
volatile memory.

1.10.1 Data Acquisition Computer

The data acquisition computer (DAq) is the central
processor for the Vertex M System. It configures the
analyzers, stores data and provides a network interface
for data transfer to other computers. System display
and operator control is through an LCD touchscreen w/
on-screen keyboard or included external keyboard.
CAUTION
OPC on TCP/IP via Ethernet not recommend-
ed for alarm annunciation.

1.10.2 Programmable Logic Controller

The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is the
control system path between the DAq and the
individual analyzers. The PLC polls the analyzers for
current information, activates relays which may be
connected to external alarms and provides external
communications.
