Inspection and Adjustment
Pump Belt
NOTE: When using a new belt, first adjust the deflection
or tension to the values for the new belt, then readjust
the deflection or tension to the values for the used belt
a f t e r r u n n i n g e n g i n e f o r l i v e m i n u t e s .
Inspection
Attach the special tool to the belt and measure the ten
sion of the belt.
Tensionr
used Belr: 340 - 490 N {35 - 50 kgf. 77 - 110 tbt)
New Belt: 640 - 780 N {65 - 80 kgl, 143 - 176 tbfl
N O T E :

lf there are cracks or any damage evident on the belt,
replace it with a new one.
. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the tension
g a u g e .

Inspect the pump belt for cracks or any damage.
Replace the belt with a new one if necessary.
Measurement without Belt Tension Gauge:
Apply a force of 98 N (10 kgl,22 lbt) and measure
d e f l e c t i o n b e t w e e n t h e p o w e r s t e e r i n g p u m p a n d
c r a n k s h a f t p u l l e y s .
Detlection:
Used Belt: 10.5 - 14.0 mm (0.41 - 0.55 in)
New Belt: 7.5 - 10.0 mm (0.30 - 0.39 inl

Adiustment
1. Loosen the power steering pump mounting bolts.

Adjust the belt tension by moving the power steer-
ing pump with a 1/2" drive breaker bar to obtain the
p r o p e r b e l t t e n s i o n , t h e n r e t i g h t e n t h e m o u n t i n g
bolts.
Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from
lock-to-lock several times, then stop the engine and
recheck the deflection of the belt.
