Lower Ball Joint Replacement
1 .
Remove the knuckle (see page 18 10).
Remove the boot by prying the set ring off.
C h e c k t h e b o o t f o r d e t e r i o r a t i o n a n d d a m a g e ,
replace if necessary.
I n s t a l l t h e s p e c i a l t o o l s o n t h e b a l l i o i n t a n d t i g h t e n
the castle nut.
P o s i t i o n t h e s p e c i a l t o o l s o v e r
shown, then set the assembly an
ball joint out of the knuckle.

Place the ball joint in position by hand.
Install the special tools over the ball joint as shown,
t h e n p r e s s t h e b a l l j o i n t i n .

Install the ball joint boot and set ring using the spe
c i a l t o o l ( s e e p a g e 1 8 - 1 6 ) .
ADJUSTING BOLT
Adj!st the depth by
turning the bolt.
9 .
Install the knuckle in the reverse order of removal,
and pay particular aftention to the following items:
. B e c a r e f u l n o t t o d a m a g e t h e b a l l i o i n t b o o t s
w h e n i n s t a l l i n g t h e k n u c k l e .
r Torque all mounting hardware to the specified
torque values.
. Torque the castle nuts to the lower torque speci-
f i c a t i o n s , t h e n t i g h t e n t h e m o n l y f a r e n o u g h t o
a l i g n t h e s l o t w i t h t h e p i n h o l e . D o n o t a l i g n t h e
castle nut by loosening.
. Install new cotter pins on the castle nuts after
t o r q u i n g .
. Avoid twisting the sensor wires when installing
the wheel sensor.
. Before installing the brake disc, clean the mating
surfaces of the front hub and the inside of the
brake disc.
Before installing the wheel, clean the matang sur-
face of the brake disc and the inside of the wheel.
Check the front wheel alignment, and adjust it if
necessary (see page 18-4).
