NOTE: Use the special tool to separate the ball ioints
from the suspension or steering arm
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the ball ioint boot.

CASTLE NUT
10 x 1.25 mm
39 - 47 N.m
(4.0 - 4.8 kgf.m,
COTTER.PIN
Replace.
On reassembly,
bend the cotter pin
';" .
CASTLE NUT
Clean any dirt or grease off the ball joint.
Remove the cotter pin from the steering arm and
remove the nut.
Apply grease to the special tool on the areas shown.
T h i s w i l l e a s e i n s t a l l a t i o n o f t h e t o o l a n d p r e v e n t
damage to the pressure bolt threads.
PRESSURE BOLT
I n s t a l l a 1 0 m m h e x n u t o n t h e b a l l j o i n t . B e s u r e
that the hex nut is flush with the ball joint pin end to
p r e v e n t d a m a g e t o t h e t h r e a d e d e n d o f t h e b a l l
Jornt.
I n s t a l l t h e s p e c i a l t o o l a s s h o w n . I n s e r t t h e j a w s
carefully, making sure you do not damage the ball
j o i n t b o o t . A d j u s t t h e j a w s p a c i n g b y t u r n i n g t h e
pressure bolt.
N O T E : l f n e c e s s a r y , a p p l y p e n e t r a t i n g t y p e l u b r i -
cant to loosen the ball joint.

17. Once the special tool is in place, turn the adjusting
bolt as necessary to make the jaws parallel. Then
h a n d - t i g h t e n t h e p r e s s u r e b o l t , a n d r e c h e c k t h e
jaws to make sure they are still parallel.
ADJUSTING BOLT
NOTE: After making the adjustment to the adjust-
ing bolt, be sure the head of the adjusting bolt is in
this position to the allow the jaw to pivot.
18. With a wrench, tighten the pressure bolt until the
balljoint shaft pops loose from the steering arm.

can break loose suddenly and scatter dirt or other
deblis in your eyes,
19. Remove the tool, then remove the nut {rom the end
o f t h e b a l l j o i n t a n d p u l l t h e b a l l j o i n t o u t o f t h e
steering/suspension arm. Inspect the ball joint boot
and replace it if damaged.
