Position the camshaft correctly (see page 6-20).
3. Tighten the cylinder head bolts sequentially in four
steps.
lsr step: O - @ 20 N.m {2.0 kgt'm, 14 lbl.fr}
2nd step: G) - @ 49 N.m {5.0 kgf.m, 36 lbf.ftl
3rd srop: O - @ 67 N'm 16.8 kgf.m, 49 lbf ftl
,lth step: o, o 67 N.m (6.8 kgf.m, 49 tbt.ftl
NOTE:
. W e r e c o m m e n d u s i n g a b e a m - t y p e t o r q u e
wrench. When using a preset-type torque wrench,
be sure to tjghten slowly and not to overtighten.
. lf a bolt makes any noise while you are torquing it,
loosen the bolt, and retighten it from the 1st step.
CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS TOROUE SEOUENCE:
Install the intake manifold and tighten the nuts in a
crisscross pattern in two or three steps, beginning
with the inner nuts (see pages 9-2 thru 9-4).
. Always use a new intake manifold gasket.
Install the exhaust manifold and tighten the nuts in
a crisscross pattern in two or three steps, beginning
with the inner nut (see pages 9-5 and 9-6).
. Always use a new exhaust manifold gasket.
I n s t a l l t h e e x h a u s t m a n i f o l d b r a c k e t . I n s t a l l t h e
exhaust pipe A and the bracket, then install thd cover,

Adjust the valve clearance {see page 6-12).
9. Install the head cover gasket in the groove of the
c y l i n d e r h e a d c o v e r . S e a t t h e r e c e s s e s f o r t h e
camshaft first, then work it into the groove around
the outside edges.
NOTEI
. B e f o r e i n s t a l l i n g t h e h e a d c o v e r g a s k e t , t h o r -
oughly clean the seal and the groove.
. When installing, make sure the head cover gas-
k e t i s s e a t e d s e c u r e l y i n t h e c o r n e r s o f t h e
recesses wrtn no gap.

Apply liquid gasket to the head cover gasket at the
four corners of the recesses.
NOTE:
.
Use liquid gasket, Part No. 08718 - 0001 or08718
- 0003.
. Check that the mating surfaces are clean and dry
before applying liquid gasket.
. Do not install the parts if five minutes or more
h a v e e l a p s e d s i n c e a p p l y i n g l i q u i d g a s k e r .
Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing old
residue.
o After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before
filling the engine with oil.
