8.4 Installing Ground Lugs for Cable Trays

Prerequisites
Cable trays have been installed.
Grounding Requirements for External Cable Trays





Context
Each row of external cable trays and their supports are integral and must have at least two
ground points. You need only to install ground lugs at the supports on both ends of each row
of cable trays.
Preparations
Tool: torque wrench
Materials: ground lug
Document: external cable tray grounding diagram
Skill requirement: common technician
Procedure
Step 1 Loosen the nut for an expansion bolt closest to the ground lug position reserved during
groundwork on the cable tray support based on the external cable tray grounding diagram.
Step 2 Install the ground lugs reserved during groundwork construction onto the cable tray supports
using a torque wrench.
Issue 02 (2017-01-10)
Each row of cable trays has at least two ground points.
Do not connect devices such as fuses and switches to ground cables.
Ground cables should be short, straight, and not coiled.
The ground resistance is within 10 ohms.
The ground resistance must be measured periodically to ensure effective grounding.
