Upgrading ATS software

Overview

B-2
WARNING
LOSS OF MONITORING — This procedure requires you to reboot
the ATS. Rebooting an ATS stops active patient monitoring. When a
care unit has only one working ATS, notify the site's biomedical
department to provide alternate bedside patient monitoring.
Establish alternate monitoring methods on page B-3.
WARNING
LOSS OF MONITORING—Do not activate the software when
logged in remotely to the ATS.
CAUTION
The software upgrade path from ApexPro v3.9 on the ATS to the
ApexPro v4.0 is a complete re-image, since it also involves an OS
update. Do not use these instructions, but rather refer to the ApexPro
Telemetry Server Reload Instructions shipped with the ATS
hardware or the ApexPro v4 software re-image kit.
NOTE
This procedure is intended for use by qualified service personnel on ATSs
running software version 4 or later. It is intended for upgrading ATS clinical
application or service application software packages.
There are different types of software package files you may be activating on
an ATS. Some are simply software patches that enhance the software
processing, others add features or functions. You may be required to
configure settings related to any added software features or functions. See
the ApexPro Telemetry System What's In This Release about added features
or functions.
You can upgrade ATS clinical application, service application, or operating system
software by installing software package files from a service laptop via CD ROM.
Both the service laptop and the ATSs must be connected to the Unity Network IX
network.
The software installation process occurs in the background and does not impact the
active monitoring of patients by the target ATSs. The software package files remain
inactive on the target ATSs until you activate them.
The activation process includes using the local Webmin service interface at each of
the target ATSs. Then, after a manual activation the ATS runs the activated software.
This chapter describes the procedures required to upgrade clinical, service
application, or operating system software packages on an ATS:
